Success of our third project workshop on Computational Methods in HPE

Our team member Murat Bakeev organized the third workshop in our series, Computational Approaches in History and Philosophy of Economics! This online event took place on October 9–10 online and explored how computational methods can be applied in the history and philosophy of economics. Our interest in such tools stems from one of our project’s key goals: using computational methods to study how models transfer across scientific domains, e. g., by generating empirical mappings that trace models’ trajectories and identify key stages in their transfer processes.

Together with sociologists of science, historians of science and philosophers, we discussed questions such as:

  1.     How to present research effectively to different audiences & pick publication venues?
  2.     How to combine quantitative & qualitative analysis when standards for doing so are still too varied & underdeveloped?
  3.     How to create better incentives & instruments for methodological quality issues, bringing together researchers across career stages & roles in the community?

Excited to take this one step further and instantiate a regular reading group on the topic. Stay tuned.
